Captain GREGORY D. CLAMPITT

Capt. Gregory D. Clampitt is the commander of the 182nd Security Forces Squadron, Peoria Air National Guard Base, Illinois. He is responsible for the security for 37 facilities on 380 acres valued over $138 million, as well as the protection and emergency response for all wing personnel. Additionally, Capt. Clampitt manages the wing’s Antiterrorism Program, which implements plans and protective measures to counter threats and analyzes weaknesses identified during risk mitigation studies through the integrated defense risk management process.

Capt. Clampitt began his military career in 2004 and served many capacities throughout his 14-year enlisted career, including Quick Reaction Force leader, convoy leader and squad leader. He has participated in broad missions such as Operations Iraqi Freedom, Freedom’s Sentinel, Enduring Freedom and Inherent Resolve. He has deployed to Iraq identifying known terrorists in detention compounds; to Saudi Arabia as a Security Escort Team member responsible for transporting individuals on and off base; to the 332nd Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron, Southwest Asia, as a flight chief supervising 32 personnel; and to Afghanistan, where he coordinated operations for a team that completed 100 Guardian Angel missions and 25 fly-away missions. Capt. Clampitt was selected for commissioning and became the 182nd Security Forces Squadron executive officer in 2018, and in 2021 was activated to lead a security team in support of the presidential inauguration.

Before become a fulltime Guardsman, Capt. Clampitt was a Peoria County Deputy Sherriff, where he served as a member of the Central Illinois Emergency Response Team and was an assistant team leader of a Weapon of Mass Destruction (WMD) Special Response Team (SRT), providing a tactical response to critical incidents such as armed/suicidal subjects, barricaded subjects, sniper situations, high risk apprehension, high-risk warrant service, dignitary protection and special assignments. Prior to his current position, the first lieutenant was a security forces officer, 182nd Security Forces Squadron, Peoria, Illinois.
