Lieutenant Colonel Evan R. Skinner

Lt. Col. Evan R. Skinner is the commander of Detachment 1, 182nd Medical Group, 182nd Airlift Wing, Peoria, Illinois. He is responsible for the management, training and development of traditional and full-time Illinois Air National Guardsmen tasked with fielded medical response support during domestic disaster and emergency missions.

Lt. Col. Skinner enlisted in the active-duty Air Force in October 2002. After completing basic training, he completed technical training in Spanish at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California, September 2003. He finished cryptologic linguist training in Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas, in January 2004 and was assigned to the 93rd Intelligence Squadron in Lackland AFB, Texas. He later transferred to the Oklahoma Air National Guard in 2004 and was assigned as a personnel specialist, completing technical training at Keesler, AFB. While serving with the Air National Guard, he completed a bachelor’s degree in nursing in May 2009 and commissioned into the Nurse Corps that September, remaining with the Oklahoma Air National Guard as a registered nurse in the 138th Medical Group. In January 2017, Lt. Col. Skinner transferred to the 182nd Airlift Wing. He has 20 years of combined active duty and Guard service.

Lt. Col. Skinner has noteworthy assignments including designation as a Critical Care Air Transport Team (CCATT) nurse with the 10th Expeditionary Aeromedical Evacuation Flight, Landstuhl, Germany. in 2011. He provided critical care nursing support in the air to several critically ill and injured service members from Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2012, he deployed with the U.S. Army to Kunar Province, Afghanistan, as charge of the trauma department, 948th Forward Surgical Team. He currently has 78.9 flight hours in the C-17A, including combat hours. Prior to his current position, the lieutenant colonel was a nurse practitioner with the 182nd Medical Group, 182nd Airlift Wing, Peoria, Illinois.
