Peoria airlift wing hit by polar vortex, mission continues

An engineer with the 182nd Civil Engineer Squadron plows snow from the mass aircraft parking area during bitter cold weather conditions at the 182nd Airlift Wing in Peoria, Ill., Jan. 6, 2014. The Illinois Air National Guard Base experienced minus 35 degrees Fahrenheit wind chills and wind gusts of up to 36 mph Monday when an arctic air mass crossed the central and eastern U.S., according to the National Weather Service. Despite the extreme environmental conditions, the installation remained open and ready to complete its state and federal missions. (U.S. Air National Guard photo by Staff Sgt.
